Sept. 18-20. Attending from the Ashville Chapter: Jeannette Taylor, Peggy Overton, Sandra Carr, Thelma Watkins. The Ashville Chapter received two awards at the convention: 1. Standard of Excellence; 2. Arts and Literature award for the Jefferson Davis Books given to the schools. Jeannette is the Alabama Division Committee Chairman for the Judah P. Benjamin awards. Thelma is to serve on the UDC Magazine Committee. The Alabama Division also elected new officers. The new Alabama Division President is: Ms. Ann King, Birmingham, AL. The Ashville Chapter participated in the UDC “You Can” drive collecting canned goods to present to a local food pantry. Our chapter collected 25 pounds of canned goods. October 19th, Jeannette Taylor, Sandra Rankin and Thelma Watkins delivered the basket of canned goods to the Ashville Community Mission at the Ashville Baptist Church. Sandra Carr of the Ashville Chapter assisted with the St. Clair Baptist Association in Hurricane Cleanup and Relief in Louisiana. Sandra deserves a pat on the back for her dedication.
